There is a great Japanese tradition where families clean their homes and prepare meals on New Year's Eve so that they can enjoy the holiday without being distracted by these chores over the following three days. In that spirit, I went through the blog and cleaned up some of the old posts, even deleting a few of the shorter ones that linked to stories that no longer existed. I couldn't fix everything without losing some links or interesting photos, but overall it feels like the blog has been cleaned up for 2010.
During this long hiatus, I also divorced myself from the compulsion to post at least twice a week just to keep my visitor stats up. Learning that older blog posts continue receiving steady traffic even when I'm not posting has assured me that I can slow down and set a goal of one good post a week without losing my audience. That's not to say that this one qualifies as such, but consider it my resolution for the new year.
