Best Kyoto Travel Guides

The blog title is misleading, because there’s only one for me, Judith Clancy’s Exploring Kyoto. She organizes the city into thirty walks, with detailed chapters that cover the major sites and fill in the spaces between like no other Kyoto travel guide. Since it avoids topical information like hotel and restaurant recommendations, the book offers lasting value before the trip for planning, during as a guide, and after as a keepsake. If you make Exploring Kyoto your one purchase, make sure you stock up on the free transit maps available at one of the tourist information booths around Kyoto Station. For more information about Clancy, her book, or her workshops about Kyoto, check out her website.
